Owner and Cat Reunite After Scare

April Slobodin is happy to say that her cat is home and safe.

That wasn't the case on April 9, when the Tuxedo cat named Stache, who is an indoor cat, got out the back door and climbed up a neighbor's tree.

"She’s an indoor cat, and she happened to get outside with the other two cats," Slobodin said. "My mother-in-law thinks something scared the cats because they knocked down the screen door in the back."

Slobodin said that Stache tends to head upward when she's nervous, and that was the case with the tree. After numerous attempts to coax Stache down failed, Slobodin hit the phones for help, but the and Hempstead Town Public Safety Department were unable to help.

"They said just to wait and see, because usually cats will come down on their own after a couple of days," Slobodin said. "But the next morning, we went outside and she was up even higher."

After a day and a half in the tree, Slobodin took to Facebook for help, and her prayers were answered. After the story about Stache was spread around, New Leaf Tree Inc. contacted Slobodin, and they came and rescued the cat.

"Jason left a job he was doing, pick up another worker and came by without any question," Slobodin said. "They went up and saved her."

As for Stache, she was very dirty, thin and hungry when she was finally coaxed off of the tree, but Slobodin said she is doing much better.

“I’m really glad somebody came to the rescue," Victoria Mele, who helped spread the word about this story around on Facebook, said. "This tree company happened to see this, and they did the right thing.”
