NUMC Patient Rings Bell of Hope

Bertha, a Nassau University Medical Center oncology patient, recently completed the first phase of her treatment.

In signaling a major milestone in her fight against breast cancer, Nassau University Medical Center patient Bertha, 25, recently completed her chemotherapy and rang the Bell of Hope in celebration of her victory over the first phase of her treatment.

"Bertha still has a long journey ahead of her as she will need further surgery and radiation treatment, following her chemo treatment," Shelly Lotenberg, the director of public affairs at Nassau University Medical Center said.

Lotenberg said that Bertha will be surrounded by the love and support of her physicians and friends at NUMC.

"To Bertha, ringing the bell is a small victory that will give her the strength to continue her cancer treatments in the coming months," she said. "We wish her the best of luck a she enters the next phase of her journey."
