NuHealth Appoints New Chief Compliance Officer

Karen Leslie was recently offered the position at the organization that manages the operations of Nassau University Medical Center.

Karen  Leslie, of Suffolk County, was recently appointed as NuHealth's new chief compliance officer.

Arthur Gianelli, president an CEO of the NuHealth System, a public benefit corporation that manages the operations of Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, said that Leslie was the best choice.


“She brings a unique perspective, particularly with respect to instituting NuHealth’s vigorous compliance program, intended to promote ethics and integrity in the workplace and to prevent wrongdoing of any kind,” he said.

Leslie will be responsible for investigating any suspicions of fraud, waste or abuse through NuHealth’s internal compliance programs and processes. If a violation of NuHealth’s Code of Ethics or other wrongdoing has occurred,  Leslie is responsible for implementing an appropriate corrective action plan, including disciplinary action against wrongdoers.

Leslie graduated from Barnard College with a B.A. in Psychology, and received her law degree from Seton Hall University Law School. She recently she held the position of Special Assistant Attorney General (SAAG) in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the New York State Attorney General’s Office   where she evaluated, investigated and prosecuted provider fraud, including false claims, whistleblower, kickbacks, self-referral actions and patient abuse cases.

She has also worked as a prosecutor in New York and New Jersey, as a criminal defense attorney in Manhattan and as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University Law School.

“My position as NuHealth’s chief compliance officer is the most challenging and gratifying experience imaginable for any professional," Leslie said. "I am honored to work at NuHealth."
