Nov. 9: Election Results, Alert System Test, Exercise

Some things to keep an eye out for in the local community.

  1. Yesterday was Election Day, and it was a win for the incumbents in the local area. Kate Murray will return for another term as Town Supervisor, and she will be joined by Mark Bonilla at Town Clerk and Donald Clavin at Receiver of Taxes.
  2. In the Nassau County Legislature, David Denenberg and Norma Gonsalves won their respective races to remain at their 19th and 13th Legislative District posts.
  3. FEMA, DHS and FCC will conduct the first national test of the Nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS) test. This nationwide test will kick off at 2 p.m. This system test is the first of its kind designed to broadcast a nationwide message to the American public. The three-minute test will run concurrently on all radio and TV band stations exceeding the previous messages broadcast which were anywhere from a 30 second to one-minute message.
  4. Looking to get a good workout? Head on down to the East Meadow Public Library at 11 a.m. for a Falun Dafa Exercise Class. It's free to attend, and wearing loose clothing is strongly suggested.
  5. Are you an avid soccer plan? Come on down to New Hyde Park to support the Calhoun Colts as they do battle with the MacArthur in the Class AA girls soccer county finals.
