March 12: Hero Returns Home, Weapons Arrest, Stomach Bug

Some things to keep in mind in the local community.

  1. On Friday, the Bellmore-Merrick community lined the streets to welcome home one of their own, Marine Cpl. Kevin Vaughan. The North Merrick Fire Department shut down Jerusalem Avenue at Shaw Drive and, with the help of several other fire departments, draped flags every block until the entrance of Wenshaw Park, where Vaughan lived.   2. An East Meadow man, who was arrested for a domestic incident Friday, was subsequently found to be in possession of an arsenal of weapons. New York State Police said they found 14 guns, two grenade launchers and large amounts of ammunition in the Bernice Drive home of Michael Anderson. For the full story, click here.
  3. A pedestrian was seriously injured when he was struck by an SUV in front of St. Barnabas Church on Bedford Avenue in Bellmore. For the full story, click here.
  4. The Nassau County Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed they are investigating a stomach bug that has been reported at Barnum Woods Elementary School in East Meadow. For more details, click here.
