Jan. 4: Library Program, New Signs on Hempstead Turnpike
The five things you should know today.
1. The East Meadow Public Library will host a an exciting and new program for children this weekend. Read more about it at 12 p.m.
2. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has recently installed a number of new "No Turn on Red" signs on Hempstead Turnpike to enhance safety on the street. Read more about the new signs at 10 a.m.

4. East Meadow is not the only location in a debate about Sonic. The eatery has filed a lawsuit against the Town of Smithtown's Board of Zoning Appeals over the rights to build a drive-in restaurant in Nesconset.
