Eisenhower Park Dog Runs Continue to Make Progress

The funding is secured, and Gonsalves recently reviewed plans for the new dog parks' design.

Pet lovers rejoice, because the that is to is making progress, according to Legis. Norma Gonsalves, R-East Meadow.

Gonsalves recently had a meeting in which she reviewed the plans for the , and she said, “Progress is definitely being made.”

The gate to the dog run will be located at the corner of Salisbury Park Drive and Stewart Avenue, with the main part of the new facility running along Salisbury Park Drive.

One of the dog runs will be for bigger dogs, while the other will be for pooches of the more petite variety.

“Pet Safe is stepping up to the plate with the benches, fountains, overhangs and more,” Gonsalves said. “Right now, the DPW (Department of Public Works) is looking to do the fencing, and I believe that they’ve secured the funding to do it, and also to make concrete paths and hook up the water.”

Gonsalves added that, while a date for completion has not been said, the things that have to be in place are in place.

“It is moving along,” she said. “To say exactly when it’s going to happen is very difficult.”

Hello Nassau ? Check out Central Park dog guide. http://www.centralparknyc.org/assets/pdfs/cpc_dog_owners_guide.pdf Off leash hours from 9:00pm to 9:00am. Unleash hours 9:00am to 9:00pm. This is Central Park. A world wonder and a place for tourist. I need to drive to Belmont State Park to walk my dog yet we are all for the "earth." Eisenhower is empty during the late fall months to early spring months. If anything: why cannot someone be able to walk their dog then ? Maybe even take the leash off ?

I have been waiting 2 years for this "proposed" dog run to open at eisenhower park. I have heard of a lot of companies/ groups offering their assistance, etc. to get it going. What is the hold up? We are talking about putting up 2 Fences, 4 sets of gates (2 each run), And running a water hook up from the existing building! heck! I'll even forego the paved trail!! Just open the dog runs! its absolutely crazy that there is NO dog run in the center of nassau county! I just wonder where everyone is going to park when they do finally open? We can blow up that bridge when we get to it!

WHAT A SURPRISE!! Its now 2 months later, and I'm still yet to see even the "fabled" stakes in the ground! At this rate, New york city will have casinos before my dog can go LAWFULLY AND SAFELY off the leash anywhere near my home!!! Congratulations! You have redefined "stretching the truth"! By your logic, I am graduating law school, if I begin the enrollment process next week! Heck! I'll buy a lottery ticket, and ask my bank for a loan because I already won!! TO BE IN THE PROCESS OF SOMETHING, YOU MUST ACTUALLY BEGIN WITH THE FIRST STEP!!

Allow me to apologize and fully retract my previous statement! I was wrong!! I went by the site of thre future dog park, and CONSIDERABLE progress has been made!! The walkways have been poured, a gazebo is up, and the posts for the fencing are set!! I spoke to someone on the site and they estimated an opening in september!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FINALLY GETTING THIS DONE!!!

The parking lot at this site is VERY small. This is a residential area. Legis. Gonsalves did any one take in consideration the traffic or parking needs OR TALK TO THE RESIDENTS IN THE AREA??? Of course the answer is going to be no.

Dog runs are a very bad idea and I hate the thought my tax dolars are paying for this. Everyone wants to believe their dogs are the best that they won't fight and that they will get along with everyone. i cannot wait to see how many law suits will be filed when the dogs fight and one gets maimed or killed by another .

I'm paying over 10,000 a yr for taxes and can't take my dog to a beautiful park! I think the dog run is a wonderful idea. There are dog runs at Cedar Creek and Wantagh Park, where dogs get along wonderfully. Its the owners that must take responsibility for a misbehaved dog.
