Cara Mattson of East Meadow was recently honored for her athletic and academic success at Hofstra University.
During half time of a basketball game, Hofstra recognized 300 student athletes who achieved a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
Mattson, a senior, is a cross country runner and a speech language hearing science and psychology major. She was one of 28 honored who earned a grade point average of 4.0.
"These young men and women put an incredible amount of work into their academics and it is important that we recognize that commitment," Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway said.
