East Meadow Tattoo Parlor Hosts B-Boy Contest for Sandy Victims

House of Addixion hosted a graffiti and breakdancing contest, in which 100 percent of the proceeds went towards Hurricane Sandy relief.

Tom Giglio, owner of House of Addixion, lost his good friend, William "B-Ill" Smith in a car accident in September. Giglio planned to have an event in his comrade's name, but then Hurricane Sandy hit Long Island.

"I decided to cancel it, but after a few days I thought it would be a good way to get people's minds off of the outages and all the chaos, " Giglio said.

The House of Addixion recently hosted it first annual B-Boy Battle and Graffiti Fundraiser. The event was sponsored by the American Red Cross and all of the proceeds went towards Hurricane Sandy relief.

Giglio decided to do a b-boy or breakdancing contest because it was something Smith loved.

"Bill was a a respected breakdancer," Giglio said. "He was a good kid."

Attendees enjoyed a night of breakdancing, food and giving back.  Several supplies were donated at the event.

Smith's parents, William "B-Dad" and Jennifer "B-Mom" Smith said that they know that their son would have been proud of the fundraiser.

"I know that he is smiling down at us now," Jennifer Smith said. "He grew up in Lindenhurst and that area was hit hard by Sandy. "I know he would have wanted to help."

Giglio said that he was happy to give back to those who suffered at the hands of Sandy and that he was able to remember his friend.

"I am ecstatic that everyone is in a great mood and we were able to celebrate Billy's life," he said.
