East Meadow Students Make Thanksgiving Baskets For Needy Residents

The East Meadow Kiwanis send out hundreds of baskets and turkeys each year.

East Meadow students recently assisted the East Meadow Kiwanis in creating Thanksgiving baskets for needy East Meadow residents.

“Trays of hot turkey, gravy, stuffing, yams, vegetables and rolls were sent to families in the costal towns affected by Sandy’s storm surge and to the out of state linemen and utility workers who came to our community’s aid to restore power,” Kiwanis President Mitchell Allen said.

Members of the Bowling Green K-Kids, WT Clarke Builders Club, Woodland Builders Club and WT Clarke Key Club helped to sort food into Thanksgiving Food Baskets for 104 East Meadow families.  Each basket included two bags of groceries and a frozen turkey.

While the food for the Kiwanis Clubs' Thanksgiving food baskets is usually collected at local supermarkets, Hurricane Sandy and the nor'easter forced the cancellation of the food drives and planned service projects.
