East Meadow Patch's New Year's Resolutions

Community members and friends share their aspirations for 2011.

As the new year approaches, people often ask what everyone is pledging as their resolution to start 2011. Many people who contribute to the East Meadow community wanted a venue to make their resolutions public, so check below.

Kate Murray, Hempstead Town Supervisor

  • I have two resolutions for the New Year.  One relates to my career as a public servant and the other focuses on my family.  As Supervisor of America's largest township, I am resolved to maintaining our township's top-notch fiscal standing while providing the finest government services at the lowest possible cost.  On a personal note, I am committed to spending more time with my Mom and Dad, as well as my entire family.  They are my source of inspiration, and I owe them a debt of gratitude which I can never repay.

  • My New Year's Resolution is to spend more time at the gym so that I will be in better shape to chase after my new, first grandson!

Arthur Gianelli, President and CEO of the NuHealth System

  • My New Year's Resolutions are to exercise more frequently, eat better and lose 20 pounds, drink less coffee, become paperless, write at least one article for publication and go someplace I've never been.

  • My New Year's Resolution is to get in shape so I can feel more comfortable. Personally, I am sick and tired of carrying the extra burden, and I know if I get myself motivated, I will get myself into shape.
  • My New Year's Resolution is to simply lose weight.

  • I resolve to stop eating anything that's not nailed down after Jan. 3 (parties on Jan. 1-2). I also resolve to lose weight, exercise, finally get my diabetes under control, rid my life of toxic people, cure cancer, create jobs (including one for myself), end the recession, turn the economy around and bring about world peace.

  • My New Year's Resolution deals with improving my golf game...to work on my putting and take six strokes off my game.

  • I am really not much for New Year's resolutions since I already quit smoking many years ago, and am not willing to give up treating myself to chocolate or Chardonnay or what little else I do that might be thought of as a vice. So, realistically, the only resolutions I might consider this year would be to stop obsessing about the many typos I make when rushing my writing, to clean up and reorganize my home office and to actually read and use at least one recipe in each cookbook I own before I buy another cookbook. And, the only one really worth keeping is to try to spend more time with loved ones and less time juggling my crazy workload.

  • My New Year's Resolution is to try to be more tolerant to those around me.

  • My resolution is to start posting my short films on YouTube. People have been bugging me to do that for years.

  • My New Year's Resolution is to complete the Long Island Half Marathon in under 2:10.

  • My New Year's Resolution is just to be happier than I was this year.

  • My New Year's Resolution is to stand closer to the basket to shoot pictures in 2011.

  • My New Year's Resolution is to try and set an example that my family can respect -- remembering if/when I fail it's what I will to do to improve the situation that will count.

  • My New Year's Resolution is to cure my boot shopping addiction.

  • I resolve to work hard in the new year, though not as hard should I win the lottery. I resolve to eat when I'm hungry and sleep when I'm tired, because it's good to start small. I resolve to treat people I like well, and people I don't well also, just to see their reaction. I resolve to laugh when I'm happy and cry when I'm sad, because why mess with a good thing. I resolve to quit smoking, easy to do since I never started. I resolve to keep on the path to my ultimate goal, which I have not yet established. And I resolve to discover the meaning of life, and when I do, to post it on Patch, because let's face it, it's where you turn first for high school track results and garage sale listings...so why not this too?

  • My New Year's Resolution is to do zumba more so I can get into my dress for my daughter's wedding.

  • I resolve to try not to be so quick to rush to judgment (even though first impressions are usually right).
