East Meadow Organization Collecting Thanksgiving Items For Sandy Victims

Pocket Change to Make a Change plan to help families in Long Beach and the Rockaways have a hot meal during the holiday.

 Pocket Change to Make a Change,, an East Meadow organization, is collecting Thanksgiving items for its Thanks! Giving Back Food Drive for families in Long Beach and the Rockaways affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Michael Gordon is an East Meadow resident and one of the founders of Pocket Change to Make a Change.

"We want to help the families of Long Beach and the Rockaways have a nice hot meal," Gordon said.

Items needed include: Gift cards for frozen turkeys, canned fruits and vegetables, instant mashed potato and stuffing mixes, jello pudding mixes,  gravy, desserts such as cookies, coffee, tea, napkins, utensils, aluminum foil, cups and roasting pans.

Pocket Change to Make a Change was started by East Meadow residents, Michael Gordon, Kathleen Bracker and Matthew Dosil in 2011. The organization has volunteered and raised money for natural disasters such as the 2011 tsunami in Japan, Hurricane Katrina and for hurricanes that have hit Florida.
