East Meadow Library to Present The Baymen

The educational children's event is part of the library's Discover Earth Program.

East Meadow Public Library and Long Island Traditions will present "The Baymen," a climate day program, for children ages eight to 11 on Saturday. The event is part of the library's Discover Earth Program.

Baymen of Long Island will explain the importance of their jobs and how their occupation has changed over the years.

Children will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities with the baymen such as: repairing nets, traps and decoys. Library officials said the event will be a "great and rare experience."

Long Island Traditions is an organization that documents local architecture such as beach bungalows, bay houses, garden apartments and farm buildings. It's mission is to "fight for the preservation of Long Island's contemporary maritime and farming culture throughout the region."
