East Meadow Library Kicks Off Anime Series

The series will promote the library annual EmCon Convention.

The East Meadow Public Library will kick off its Anime Series on Wednesday to promote its 3rd Annual EmCon Convention in May.

The series will start with the screening of an Anime film, "Death Note II: The Last Name" on Wednesday evening.

Kelly Gordon, art director of the library and organizer of the convention, said that programs such as the Anime series are important.

"There is a real need and Anime is a passion," Gordon said. "It is definitely a culture that people celebrate."

The EmCon Convention started at the library in 2011. It is the organization's first Anime festival that celebrates one of Japan's most popular culture and art. The festival has a number of cultural activities, including events and workshops that will provide entertainment for people of all ages. More than 1,000 people attend the event each year.

"There is Comic Con in the City each year which is huge," Kelly said. "EmCon is filled with activities and free to the public."

"Death Note II: The Last Name" will be shown at the library on Wednesday at 6 p.m. EmCon will take place at the library on May 18 to 19.
