Aug. 15: Man Hit by Train, Vacant Property Update

Some things to keep an eye out for.

"Five Things You Need to Know Today" will now feature stories and events from Bellmore, Merrick and East Meadow! Here are some things to look out for on this Monday.

  • A 24-year-old East Meadow man was killed by a train Saturday morning at the Babylon train station. Kevin Lherisson reportedly fell on the tracks and was hit by an empty train heading to New York at about 3 a.m., according to the LIRR.
  • There is still no word on the development of the vacant land, formerly a Rite Aid, at the southwest corner of Jerusalem Avenue and Pea Pond Road. The owners of the property, Norse Realty, based out of New Hyde Park, said the property is still under lease and had no other comment as this time.

  • A special program featuring singer/storyteller, Lou Del Bianco will be held for children who participated in the Merrick Library's summer reading program as Globetrotters. The program begins at 7 p.m.
  • The East Meadow Public Library will be hosting astrophysicist Kevin Manning for a star gazing workshop at 7:30 p.m. tonight. For more information, call 516-794-2570
