Application for Proposed Taxi Dispatch Center in East Meadow Withdrawn

Joseph Piscitello, who was planning to purchase the property, said that the withdrawal from the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals was in the best interest of the community.

The application for a proposed taxi dispatch center on Clearmeadow Drive and Hempstead Turnpike was officially withdrawn from the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals on Wednesday.

Richard Bivone, the developmental consultant of Joseph Piscitello, who was planning to buy of the property at 2279 Clearmeadow Drive, said that Piscitello believed that the withdrawal was in the best interest of the community after he heard the concerns of residents at a public forum on Monday.

"We thought it was the best thing to do," Bivone said.

During the community meeting at Nassau University Medical Center, residents said that the proposed dispatch center would threaten the safety of their children, increase traffic and bring down the property value of the area.

"We will not go any further," Bivone said. "The contract was cancelled with the seller and is no longer valid."
