Chezar Art Studio's Summer Show

Sheila Chezar- Hershkowitz, founder of Chezar Art Studio announced that the studio's Summer Art Show will take place at the Jericho Public Library during the month of August. In addition, all residents are invited to the opening reception on Saturday, August 2nd from 2 pm to 4 pm in the gallery. Refreshments will be served.

The show will feature paintings and drawings of the 13 talented artists and students who have attended the studio since its opening in 2012. The work of the following are included: Teachers Sheila Chezar-Hershkowitz and Suzanne Young from Halesite are accompanied by the following students: Suzie Alvey of Garden City, Katerina Bakke of Merrick, Renee Bundi of Port Washington, Aggie Cutrone of North Bellmore, Emmy Davis of Bellmore, Francine Farber of Bellmore, Linda Gottlieb from Merrick, Jena Heneghan from Point Lookout, Marita Kasaounis of Farmingdale, Jeremy Vidal, Marilyn Wolfson of Merrick and Peter Zappa from North Bellmore.

Sheila Chezar-Hershkowitz said, "I grew up in a wonderful environment of creativity and had an understanding of our cultural ties to the world. My dream is to share this love of art, creativity, and culture with the community and its young people, who though my studio can be excited by art and art history. I have wonderful art students of all ages and we have visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan this year, to further engage young artists.  Other trips are planned in the future."

Sheila Chezar-Hershkowitz received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. As a young artist she attended the Art Students League in Manhattan and studied with highly-acclaimed artists such as Chuck Close and Harvey Dinnerstein. She also attended the Woodstock Summer School in Woodstock, NY and studied under Jon deMartin. In recent years Sheila has studied under Suzanne Young. In 2012, she founded Chezar Art Studio in Bellmore, Long Island. Recently, she has also conducted a spring art class at the Jericho Public Library, which will continue in the fall.

Sheila works with various mediums with a heavy concentration on portraits. Her work is beautifully drawn rendering with color and emotion, realism with whimsy.

Suzanne Young is an art teacher at Chezar Art Studio with an extensive background. She has studied at the Ecole, Rue des Bons Enfants, Academie De La Grande Chaumere in Paris, the Cooper Union in New York and the Art Students League in New York with four scholarships culminating in a National Merit Grant. She has also studied with Mary Rose Palau, PSA; John Frederick Murray; Robert Brackman, PSA; David Leffel and Aaron Shikler, NA.

Suzanne has exhibited at many New York area galleries and museums, including the National Arts Club, Salmagundi Club, National Academy of Design, Northport Galleries, Heckscher Museum, Gallery North and the Nassau County Museum of Art.

Ms. Young has taught at several places in the area in addition to Chezar Art Studio. Some are the Art League of Long Island since 1984, Nassau County Office of Cultural Development in Chelsea Center, Life-Long Learning with Nassau Community College, the Islip Museum and others. From 1996 to the present, she has taught in workshops in the Islip Art Museum, the Jacqueline Penney Studio in Cutchogue in addition to the Pastel Society of America. Suzanne was the co-president of the Suburban Art League for four years, has worked as a department manager of Pearl Paint in East Meadow and currently works at Blick Art Supplies in Carle Place, in addition to teaching. A painting of her was published in The Best of Pastel and American Artist Magazine.

Students in the month-long show include:

Suzie Alvey, a freelance artist for 30 years who enjoys painting portraits and landscapes in oil and watercolor;

Katerina Bakke, a student at Nassau Community College who has won an award for her art;

Renee Bundi, an award-winning tablet app designer and producer with Time, Inc. who paints landscapes;

Aggie Cutrone, who has rediscovered her passion for painting after working in information technology for the last 30 years;

 

Emmy Davis, a retired New York City teacher who paints;

 

Linda Gottlieb, an artist, art teacher and designer who enjoys drawing;

 

Jena Heneghan, a Holy Trinity High School senior who would like to major in art therapy in college;

 

Marita Katsaounis, an artist who specializes in landscapes;

 

Jeremy Vidal, a young student;

 

Marilyn Wolfson, a new student who enjoys acrylics;

 

and Peter Zappa, a 12-year-old student who works in different media.
