Hempstead and Hofstra Team-Up for Hoop Clinics

Young basketball players, ages 6 to 15, can sharpen their “hoop” skills and take “Pride” in their performance by teaming-up with Hempstead Town and Hofstra University at FREE instructional clinics this summer.

Players and coaches from Hofstra’s men’s and women’s teams will work with youngsters to improve their shooting, dribbling and passing skills. Supervisor Kate Murray will present a star-studded line-up of Hofstra “hoopsters” at the following summer clinics:

Tuesday, July 24: Averill Blvd. Park, Elmont at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, July 25: Baldwin Park, Baldwin at 6 p.m.

Thursday, July 26: East Village Green, Levittown at 6 p.m.

Clinics are free but pre-registration is required by calling (516) 292-9000, ext. 245 or e-mailing vsparaccio@tohmail.org.  Clinics will be an hour in length and each session is open to both boys and girls. Players will be grouped according to their skill level.  Participants will have the opportunity to win Hofstra tee-shirts and gift certificates.  Youngsters may bring their own basketballs if they choose.

National Collegiate Athletic Association regulations prohibit high school students from participating in the clinics.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for youngsters to learn from top flight college athletes who play for our hometown Hofstra Pride,” commented Supervisor Murray.  “What a thrill it will be for boys and girls to work with the college players they see on television and read about in the newspapers.”

All clinic information and program updates will be available on the town web site at TOH.LI.
