Jake's Wayback Burgers in East Meadow, Hyped-Up Hamburgers

Find out why this Hempstead Turnpike burger joint left Alex and Lauren craving Cheeburger Cheeburger.

The hype of Jake's Wayback Burgers opening in East Meadow is unfortunately just that - hype, and nothing more. While Alex and I commend Jake's Wayback Burgers for their variety of milkshakes and tasty selection of comforting sides, the burgers themselves left something to be desired.

Alex ordered a Burger with Fries and I opted for a Burger with the House Made Chips. I have also sampled the Onion Rings during a previous visit with another friend. We chose various toppings and different sauces as well. We both agreed that nothing "WOW-ed" us about this Hempstead Turnpike burger joint. While striving to obviously be a step above the McDonald's and Burger King category, Jake's Wayback Burgers fails at reaching the Cheeburger Cheeburger level of juiciness and variety. Upon my very first bite into the bun all I could think was "Wow, I really miss Fuddruckers right now." Remember those buns?!!

Perhaps in other parts of the county, Jake's Wayback Burgers hits a home run, but with burger joints like Cheeburger Cheeburger in Plainview, All American in Massapequa, Five Guys (Island-wide) and The Burger Spot in Garden City, Jake's Wayback Burgers is lucky to hit a ground ball and make it to first base.

Therefore, staying true to our Long Island audience and keeping your desires and standards in mind, Jake's Wayback Burgers receives 2.5 Mints out of 5 Mints on our Dinner Mint Rating Scale

Your comments are a breathe of fresh air.
I thought it was me but know i realized it was not. Ahhh Fuddruckers If only given a chance, I think Sonic would be a better choice....... Stay tuned........

My husband and I tried Jake's twice -not quite believing that hamburgers could EVER be so tasteless. They were terrible. Never again. Try Champion Burger on Newbridge Road in Hicksville or the burger place on the corner of Old Country Road and Newbridge Road -both are very good.

I have had the same experience nothing special about jake's. It was very average in all aspects.

Thanks very much, Paul! It will be interesting to see if more Sonic's spring up on LI.

Thanks for the recommendation, Claire! We are often in Hicksville, so good to know!

We certainly agree with you, Mac.

I did not like the burgers either. Went once and won't be back. Very tasteless. The best juiciest burgers by far are at Majors Steakhouse on East Meadow Avenue.

We've been to Majors several times over the years - Great burger spot, Joanne! We agree!

Majors great choice.
Blue cheese crumbles on my burger make it that much better. It is not by accident Majors as well as their other establishments are ran well. The family has several notable food establishments that are very good. It all started way back (and I do not mean Wayback) with Pappas Restaurant in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. Just in case you were not aware of that fact......

Paul - Are you saying the owners of Majors used to have a place in Sheepshead Bay?
paul May 4, 2012 at 03:55 pm
Yes, I sure am.....

I'm so glad I read this. Since I eat red meat so rarely (no pun intended) these days, I will pass on Jake's. From what you've all written, it sounds like Burger King's Whopper would be far superior. Thanks for saving me a trip. I happen to like the Burger Platter Deluxe at the Apollo Diner but I've never had the burger at Major's.

the owners of Majors own Bryant & Cooper, Riverbay, Toku and several other places including the Frites place in Greenvale and the brand new restaurant that took over the George Washington Manor in Roslyn village.

What's to look into? Neil Koenig was the owner. He's good friends with my cousin. My cousin toldRead More me "he couldn't make a go of it." The last time I was there was in December. The food was just ok and the service was horrible. Not one course was correct and we didn't even change anything from the menu description. Note to the waitress, the appetizer is NOT supposed to come for dessert!! And Rich is correct. The name was Buongusto's PieSano's. I hope the new owners (Lia's) stop serving Chocolate Mouse (should be Mousse) as per the sign on the Prospect Avenue side of the building.

"He just took $600 from our students funds" What does that mean? Either you handed himRead More money from the students fund or it was stolen. I would like to hear the owners side of the story.

There are many people behind the scenes who have worked for months in advance to make this eventRead More successful. Due to business and personal commitments, it is impossible to get them together again on short notice.

Unfortunately, the cancellation stands. Work for the 8:00 AM opening begins early in the morning.Read More The grounds at Speno Memorial Park were waterlogged, which could have resulted in slipping hazards and extensive property damage. If it's any consolation, we're as sorry about the cancellation as the people who would have attended the event.
