Join us as we discuss Better Living Through Birding by Christian Cooper.&nbsp;This is the story of Christian Cooper’s extraordinary life leading up to the now infamous incident in Central Park and shows how a life spent looking up at the birds prepared him, in the most uncanny of ways, to be a gay, Black man in America today. From sharpened senses that work just as well at a protest as in a park to what a bird like the Common Grackle can teach us about self-acceptance, Better Living Through Birding exults in the pleasures of a life lived in pursuit of the natural world and invites you to discover them yourself.

Long Island Reads Book Discussion - Better Living Through Birding

In the Orthodox Church, the season of Great Lent is the 40-day season of preparation for Holy Week and Pascha (known as Easter in English), the Resurrection of Christ. Great Lent is a time of repentance and renewed devotion via prayer, confession, fasting, and almsgiving. We invite you to worship with us at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 369 Green Avenue, East Meadow. The more ancient form of the liturgy, The Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great, is celebrated at 9:30 AM every Lenten Sunday (from March 24 to April 21 this year). Each of the Sundays of Great Lent has its own special theme, which is reflected in the New Testament readings and hymns of that day, as well as the sermon. The Divine Liturgy is followed by coffee hour with Lenten foods. All services are conducted in English.
Holy Trinity is a diverse community of Orthodox Christians who come from all walks of life and ethnicities, gathering in the oneness of Faith to worship God in the fullness of the Church’s liturgical life. The parish also has a strong commitment to serving others through various charities. We welcome all people seeking a community rooted in the oldest Christian Church with an emphasis on Holy Scripture, Holy Tradition, liturgical and prayer life, and traditional Christian values.
The Divine Liturgy (Eucharist) is celebrated every Sunday and feast day at 9:30 AM (Hours at 9:00 AM). Please be aware that only Orthodox Christians are allowed to partake of the Eucharist and other sacraments because of the ancient canons, but others are welcome to receive a blessing. A vegan coffee hour during Great Lent follows the Sunday Divine Liturgy. Vespers (evening prayer) are served every Saturday and on the eve of feast days at 6:00 PM. The result was one of the most extraordinary collections of paintings in history – including the super famous “School of Athens!” Join Dr. Rocky for this free webinar where he will examine Raphael’s celebrated frescoes in the former apartments of Pope Julius II, which are better known as the “Stanze.”
