Readers' Choice Winner: Uncle Giuseppe's

The popular East Meadow hotspot received 29 percent of the vote.

On Monday, Patch enlisted your help to name the best place to get catered food in East Meadow, and the readers have responded emphatically. After 78 votes were tallied, Uncle Giuseppe's was this week's choice, as it garnered 23 votes, which was eight more than both Nina's Deli and Figarelly's. Mama Theresa's was in fourth place with 11 votes, and right behind them was Ciro's Pizzeria & Restaurant with nine. Borrelli's also got four votes during the contest, and Il Vizio Ristorante was given one vote as well. Uncle Giuseppe's was not nominated by Patch when the initial poll was posted, but the readers commented to voice their support, which forced Patch to add it as an option. The same can be said for Nina's Deli. Let Patch save you time. …

Texas Roadhouse Branching Out to Suffolk

Steakhouse to break ground in Deer Park this month with grand opening slated for October.

An East Meadow steakhouse is expanding to Suffolk County and has plans to open its second Long Island restaurant later this year. Texas Roadhouse will break ground on the Deer Park location later this month, Travis Doster, a company spokesperson, told Patch. The new restaurant will be located near Tanger Outlets and current plans call for a grand opening in early October, he said. “We’re looking to begin construction on May 21,” Doster said. Doster said that each restaurant typically has 170 employees with part-time workers accounting for 60 percent of the staff and full-timers the remaining 40 percent. He expects hiring to begin one to two months prior to the opening of the Deer Park location. The company’s roots date back nearly 20 years…

DreamCatcher Entertainment Comes to East Meadow

The new business is run by a longtime East Meadow teacher.

Normally, being a full-time teacher consumes most of a person’s time, but for Joe Targove, that’s certainly not the case. Targove, who lives in Bellmore, teaches fifth grade at McVey Elementary School, and he’s worked in the East Meadow School District for 26 years. When the bell rings at the end of the day, Targove heads to DreamCatcher Entertainment at 212 East Meadow Ave., and he embraces another passion of his. “I wanted to create a space that was low-budget enough for people to have any kind of party, whether it’s for kids or adults, that has a high-end feel,” Targove said. First, Targove opened up shop at the smaller Party Peeps on Newbridge Road in North Bellmore, because he wasn’t sure how business was going to do in the early …

51 percent of voters picked that as the best place to go for a staycation in East Meadow.

On Monday, East Meadow Patch posed the question of where the ultimate place for a staycation is in East Meadow, and more than half of the voters have cast their votes for Eisenhower Park. The East Meadow-based landmark received 19 of 37 possible votes to take the crown as Readers' Choice, while Veterans Memorial Park finished second with 10 votes. The East Meadow Public Library came in third place with four votes, and East Meadow Lanes and Speno Park rounded out the voting with three votes and one vote, respectively. Pathmark Tops Worst Supermarkets List [POLL]

A recent survey shows Pathmark shoppers aren't satisfied with their experience.

A national supermarket survey released by Consumer Reports found that Pathmark customers have the worst experience of any supermarket chain in the United States. Pathmark topped the list, and according to this slideshow, 75 percent of those polled had at least one complaint about shopping at the New Jersey-based chain, which has a location on Front Street in East Meadow. Food quality, price and cleanliness concerns weighed on Pathmark, which is a unit of A&P. To see the entire list, check out this report in The Fiscal Times, where King Kullen gets prominently mentioned, though not for having angry customers.

Town of Hempstead Councilman Gary Hudes joins the owners for official ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday.

Brothers Domenico and Anthony Sacramone celebrated another exciting occasion in their restaurant careers on Tuesday evening – the official grand opening and ribbon cutting of their new East Meadow restaurant, Sacramone’s. After having a soft opening in December 2011, the Sacramones were joined by their mother, Maddalena, 87, and Town of Hempstead Councilman Gary Hudes, as well as friends and family, to mark the special occasion. Hudes also presented the Sacramones with a Town of Hempstead Citation. “Anytime we have a new business that opens in the Town of Hempstead, and specifically in my district in East Meadow or Levittown, we are very excited to see new businesses come into the area,” Hudes said. The duo has already proved their success…

East Meadow Ready for Cinco de Mayo

Local businesses are participating in the annual holiday.

East Meadow merchants are ready to celebrate the arrival of Cinco de Mayo. According to History.com, the celebrations "commemorates the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867)." In East Meadow, both Moe's Southwest Grill and Margarita's Cafe will be enjoying the day in their own ways. At Moe's, the first 150 customers that show up on Saturday will receive a free t-shirt. Although the business will open its doors at 11 a.m., one employee said that customers need to arrive early. "People get really excited," she said. "Some are going to be here as early as 9 a.m." At Margarita's, the celebration will be more party-themed. There will be a Mariachi Band starting at 6 p.m., as …
