DreamCatcher Entertainment Comes to East Meadow

The new business is run by a longtime East Meadow teacher.

Normally, being a full-time teacher consumes most of a person’s time, but for Joe Targove, that’s certainly not the case. Targove, who lives in Bellmore, teaches fifth grade at McVey Elementary School, and he’s worked in the East Meadow School District for 26 years. When the bell rings at the end of the day, Targove heads to DreamCatcher Entertainment at 212 East Meadow Ave., and he embraces another passion of his. “I wanted to create a space that was low-budget enough for people to have any kind of party, whether it’s for kids or adults, that has a high-end feel,” Targove said. Clarke Students Honored for Musical Performances

Five of the district's talented musicians performed for an audience in Carle Place.

Some of the East Meadow School District's finest musicians were recognized recently for their excellent musical performances at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Carle Place. According to the church's website, Laura Carrington Barboza, the youth director of the church, heard that these W.T. Clarke High School students were looking to perform for a live audience, so she had her daughter, Lien Barboza, invite the students to come down and show their skills. Three separate flautists, Anna Cronin, Gouri Sandananda and Maggie Cotter, each performed classical music in separate performances. Vocalists Samantha  Bishop and Carly Sheehan brought a taste of Broadway to the church as well. All of the participants were rewarded with an ovation, …

East Meadow Man Returns from National Band Tour

Members of the musical group spoke with Patch about upcoming album and life on the road.

Pop-punk quartet Giants at Large have returned home to Long Island from their second country-wide tour and are now shifting focus toward their debut full length album. Formed in 2010 after their first venture into the music scene fell apart, Giants at Large is made up of CJ Kostaras of Bethpage, Matt Lagattuta of East Meadow, Brian Thomann of Mineola and Anthony Pasini of Hicksville. The band set out early this year on tour from California and worked their way back to The Vibe Lounge in Rockville Centre. “Being on the road with your best friends and seeing people screaming all your words is a great feeling,” said Kostaras, “but I did learn a lot being on that tour. Evan and Emily Carroll, who were recently rewarded with a first place prize in the New York State Reflections contest for their prowess with ballroom dancing, received their certificates on April 18 at Brookside School in North Merrick. Author of "The Lifeboat" to Appear at EMPL

Charlotte Rogan will be in East Meadow on May 18.

The East Meadow Public Library is pleased to have up-and-coming author Charlotte Rogan, author of The Lifeboat, speak about her book on May 18 at 12:30 p.m. In the summer of 1914, the elegant ocean liner carrying Grace and her husband Henry across the Atlantic Ocean suffers a mysterious explosion. Setting aside his own safety, Henry secures Grace a place in a lifeboat, which the survivors quickly realize is over capacity. For any to live, some must die. New Book's Plot Takes Place in East Meadow

"Partials," by Dan Wells, discusses one girl's journey to act as the human race is in jeopardy.

A new book that focuses on one girl's path to question authority as the future of the human race is very much in question, and the safety zone is located in East Meadow. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, author Dan Wells' "Partials" tells the story of the year 2076, when killing machines called partials have spread a virus that has wiped out a majority of the human race. Kira Walker is one of 40,000 people left, staying safe in East Meadow, and while government officials have began to force women over 18 to reproduce in hopes of producing an immune baby, she seeks an alternative solution. View Finder: Artists Display Work at EMPL

The library was packed while locals payed homage to the pieces and their creators.

Two lecture halls were nearly not enough to accommodate the crowd on April 12 for “Girls Night Out” at the East Meadow Public Library. The event featured guest speaker Evelyn Silver and her colleague Naomi Sanderson, who are docents at the Nassau County Museum of Art. “I have always had a great interest in art and have been doing this for 54 years,” Silver said. Their discussion focused on “Children Having Fun as seen by Major Artists.” They represent part of an outreach program, which engages and brings art into community centers, libraries and various other organizations. Mike Lembo Gets Billboard Spotlight

East Meadow resident hosted a party at Zachary's to celebrate his new song release on April 6.

Mike Lembo has certainly come a long way since reciting the Beastie Boys with his friends at age 15. Now, 24-year-old East Meadow resident is celebrating a Billboard.com spotlight and the debut of his new song, "Can't Come Down." Also, he recently had his picture up in the middle of Times Square. "That was awesome," Lembo said. "Seeing myself up there next to Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj is just crazy." Lembo has been in East Meadow since the beginning, going from Barnum Woods Elementary School to Woodland Middle School and eventually East Meadow High School. The master illusionist pulls off yet another improbable trick.

Criss Angel is known around the world as one of the premier illusionists, and it all began in East Meadow. Angel, 43, whose real name is Christopher Sarantakos, graduated from East Meadow High School 27 years ago. Angel began learning magic when he was six years old. His aunt showed him a card trick and he was hooked. "Ever since then, I drove my family crazy by doing tricks to them and getting their opinions and advice about how I could better my presentation," Angel said.
