Volunteers Raise Money for Pediatric Trauma

Over $4,200 was raised for the North Shore-LIJ center.

K-family members from K-Kids, builder’s club, key club, Circle K and Kiwanis walked, danced and played while raising over $4,200 for the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center at North Shore-LIJ.

Organized by the KPTC Service Leadership Committee and hosted by the LIU-Post Circle K, the committee’s first Walk for KPTC sported nearly 200 participants.

Whether walking the full 3 miles on the elevated indoor track, dancing to the music of DJ Tim Aldridge, shooting hoops or pulling for the victory of one’s gender in a guys vs. girls tug-o-war, everyone enjoyed their evening while supporting a great cause.

Walk t-shirts were provided to anyone with $25 or more in donations. Levittown Kiwanis President Ann Torcivia secured Levittown Ford and his other dealerships as a $500 t-shirt ad sponsor. Torcivia also sold jewelry at the walk and donated all the proceeds to KPTC.

A highlight of the evening was DJ Tim Aldridge, who donated his services and insured everyone had a great time by providing outstanding music, fun games and exciting contests.

DJ Tim even set the stage for NYD Kiwanis Governor Bill Risbrook’s visit by playing some of BT Express’ greatest hits.

Rickie Santer stressed the teamwork demonstrated by the Walk for KPTC subcommittee including LIU-Post Circle Kers Kristin Leverone and Christina Principato, who took on the duties of hostesses securing the food donations and booking the Post’s Pratt Recreation Center for the event.

The members of the subcommittee also created flyers, sponsor sheets and ad forms. Santer commended Domenick Pesce for his logo design and Lauren for her design of the back of the t-shirt.

Santer also commended committee members and Kiwanians who sold t-shirt ads and the parents of the Bowling Green K-Kids who baked treats for the walk’s bake sale.

The bake sale raised approximately $150 and boxes of surplus baked goods were donated to a homeless shelter in Coney Island and delivered by Joe Corace.

Bowling Green K-Kids Nicole Neilson and Lili Greene were named the top fundraisers and the Bowling Green K-Kids received the trophy for the Top Fundraising Club bringing in over $700 in donations.

In total, the Walk for KPTC raised $4,233 for the trauma center. Extra t-shirts will be available at the KPTC display table at the mid-winter conference for anyone wishing to support the KPTC Service Leadership Committee and KPTC.
