Salisbury Man Busted for DWI, Assault After Crashing into Cop Car
Defendant was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, according to police.
A Westbury man was arrested early Saturday after allegedly refusing to be pulled over by police for erratic driving in East Meadow.
According to police, 37-year-old Michael Cammarota was allegedly observed by a Third Precinct patrol supervisor driving erratically on Old Country Road in a 1998 Jeep. Police allege that Cammarota refused to be pulled over, at which point the patrol supervisor called for assistance.
The chase spilled onto Carman Avenue, where the defendant allegedly struck the supervisor's car in the back. Officers were able to stop his vehicle along Carman Avenue and take him into custody.
Police said that an officer was injured during the incident and was sent to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was treated and released for an injured shoulder.
Police also allege that Cammarota was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment and driving while intoxicated. He will be arraigned in Hempstead First District Court on Sunday.

Thanks to The Patch for reporting the news on this scumbag. And while it's great the police were able to subdue him fairly quickly, it's likely he'll be back out on the street in a couple of weeks to cause even greater harm to some unfortunate innocent. If we knew that he'd be locked up for 10 years for this crime, I'd feel slightly better about the outcome. But such is not the case.

Scumbags like this guy Cammarota should be taken off the streets. Thank god nobody was seriously hurt or killed. Losers like this are the type of people who would hurt their own mother. He could of taken out an innocent family, he should get jail time & justice should be served.Thank the Nasau County Police Department for doing a great job in stopping this guy.

Its a sad sad thing that people go out on Friday nights and get polluted and think they they are inviniscible. Sure its fine to go out and have fun, but dont be selfish and think about how those drinks can effect everyone else around you. Now that the rules in Nassau County are getting stiffer, I dont think this guy will be out anytime soon...Yes, thank God no one was seriously hurt,or killed. Great job NCPD for caputuring this lowlife. Hopefully we will wind up where he should be...not behind a wheel of a car ...try steel bars!
