Man Found Dead in Jail Cell

He was found at 3:30 p.m. Friday, according to police.

A 33-year-old male inmate was found dead at the at 3:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

According to Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives, the man, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, committed suicide by hanging and was found by a correction officer in his cell.

The deceased was transported to where he was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m.

The has been under , as the number of untimely deaths at the jail continues to climb.

In October of 2010, Herve Jeannot, 29, of Deer Park, was by jail personnel. Jeannot had just been in Long Beach. Gasparino Godino, who also of 2010, was being held at the facility on robbery charges from a Levittown incident.

According to Newsday, Westbury resident Darryl Woody hanged himself at the jail on Jan. 3, 2011 after being transported from the facility's medical unit. Woody, 44, had been moved to the hospital after slitting his wrists at the jail.

On June 11, 2011, Roy C. Nordstrom, 46, of Shirley, of feeling ill and was sent to the infirmary, said Lt. Kevin Smith, a former Nassau County police spokesman. He was then “checked out” and returned to his prison cell, Smith said.

He was later found by jail officials to be in cardiac arrest shortly after 8 a.m. and was taken to NUMC, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, officials said.

Most recently, An , 26, from Long Beach, on Jan. 7 after getting into a fight with another prisoner. According to Nassau Police, Brown, became involved in a physical confrontation with a fellow inmate before 7 a.m. Saturday. He suffered several contusions and was pronounced dead by hospital staff shortly after.
