Gin Blossoms And Spin Doctors Rock East Meadow

Hit bands perform at Eisenhower Park as part of the 2011 Concert Series.

Long Island fans braved the triple digit temperatures to enjoy a trip back to the decade of the 90's on Friday night with a free concert by the Spin Doctors and Gin Blossoms at Eisenhower Park

The crowds grew throughout the evening as parking lots filled up; cars were directed to park on adjacent fields while fans continued to show up with lawn chairs, coolers and drinks in hand to brave the hot elements.

“It is really hot here but luckily I have some chilled drinks to keep me cool and I have a free concert to listen to,” Steve Kestenbaum of East Meadow said.

The show opened with the Spin Doctors playing songs from their whole career including chart hits such as “Little Miss Cant Be Wrong” and closed their set with their most notable hit song “Two Princeses.” The band was also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the first hit album "Pocket Full of Kryptonite."

After a brief change-over on the stage, the Gin Blossoms took the stage performing songs both old and new. The band, originally from Arizona, had no problem performing in the heat and playing for the Long Island crowd was a treat for the band as some members of the band now call Long Island home. This included lead singer Robin Wilson who currently resides in Valley Stream.

Throughout the performance Wilson would enter into the field to sing parts of his songs with the crowd  and by the end of the show had fans up as close to the stage as they could be entering the VIP area of the field.

“I came to see the Gin Blossoms because I really like their lyrics,” Meri Lapka of Plainview said.

The headlining act covered a career’s worth of songs during their performance that included hit singles such as “Follow you down”, “Found out about you” and “Hey Jealousy” which they used to close out the show.

The concert was part of the 2011 summer concert series presented by County Executive Ed Mangano, for full listings of the remaining free performances during the summer you can get the full schedule on the County's web site.
