Eisenhower Dog Run Design Plan Completed

The dog run is still in the works, according to Legis. Norma Gonsalves.

Dog lovers rejoice — an East Meadow dog run is still in the works for the East Meadow community.

Legis. Norma Gonsalves, R-East Meadow, told Patch that the design phase of the based dog run is completed. She said that she saw the design plan last week and the proposal is “beautiful.”

“It is going to make all dog lovers happy,” she added, noting that the run will feature two separate areas – one for large dogs and one for smaller ones – similar to the design at nearby dog parks, including the ones at Nickerson Beach and Wantagh Park.

The gate to the dog run will be located at the corner of Salisbury Park Drive and Stewart Avenue, with the main part of the new facility running along Salisbury Park Drive, according to Legis. Gonsalves.

“It is really going to run along Salisbury down to Stewart,” she said. “There is a gate there that will have access to the dog run, but the dog run will run down Salisbury.”

She said that there is not yet a specific opening date for the dog run, but the Commissioner of Parks “is going to schedule a meeting very soon with the key players in the proposal.”

“We have to have another meeting,” she continued. “The plan is there so that is a good thing. As I said it looks fantastic.”

That meeting will be for those who have been involved in the process and advocated for the dog run, and then they “will open it up,” she added. According to Legis. Gonsalves, they are still “going to need additional money for the project.”

The idea was at civic meetings last spring, leaving many residents excited about the proposition of a place for local canine companions to play. Legis. Gonsalves confirmed the in August.

Chief Deputy Commissioner of the Nassau County Parks Department Bob Dwyer in October that equipment for the run was ordered. He had added that there are plans to host a meeting to showcase the design.
