East Meadow Fire Department Responds to Levittown Blaze

A fire started on the first floor of a Levittown home around 9:47 a.m. Friday morning.

A college student was sleeping in his bedroom at 22 Crabtree Lane Friday morning when he woke up around 9:47 a.m. to find his house was on fire, reported the First Assistant Chief Carl Pugliese.

The resident jumped out of his second story window and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center with minor injuries, Pugliese said.

The rest of the family was at work when the fire broke out on the first floor of the home. The Levittown, East Meadow, Hicksville and North Bellmore Fire Departments worked together to get the fire under control by 10:45 a.m.

The fire spread to the second floor of the home and did extensive damage. The fire marshal is still investigating the cause.

"It was an excellent effort," said Pugliese of the firemen. "Even though there was a lot of damage, they did a really good job. Some hard ladder work was done here."
