UPDATE: Hicksville Man Arrested for DWI, Assault in Newbridge Road Crash
One woman suffered serious injuries after Daniel Benison veered his car into oncoming traffic, police say.
A Hicksville man was arrested for DWI and assault after he caused an accident on Newbridge Road in East Meadow Friday, police said.
According to the police report, at approximately 7 a.m., Daniel Benison, 22, was traveling southbound on Newbridge Road at Falcon Street with a 20 year-old female passenger when he allegedly forced his Oldsmobile Cutless into the northbound lane into oncoming traffic. This caused a collision with a Honda Odyssey, police say.
The passenger in Benison’s vehicle suffered fractures in her skull, pelvis and ribs, and she was transported to a local hospital for admission. Benison was also transported to the hospital for a shoulder injury.
At the hospital, officers determined that Benison was intoxicated, and he was played under arrest, officials say.
The driver and passenger of the Odyssey refused medical attention at the scene, despite the fact that the collision caused their vehicle to hop onto the curb.
Newbridge Road was closed between Inglewood Street and Kenmore Street for over three hours due to the accident.
Benison is charged with second degree assault, second degree vehicular assault, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. He will be arraigned bedside on Saturday.

Wow that is some T-bone hit..the red car is almost bent in half... .I agree with John that a 30mph broadside hit could not do that kind of damage. John wrote:"There is a 30mph limit on Newbridge Road at this intersection. There is no way that van wasn't speeding to cause this much damage. I've lived here a long time, and this is just one of many accidents caused by speeders in this area".
