A Freeport man was arrested for assaulting a Nassau County Correctional Center officer on Jan. 27 after he allegedly refused to turn his cell phone off at the front gate.

According to police, Dominic Cowan, 21, was at the East Meadow jail to post bond for an inmate. When the officer asked Cowan to shut off his phone, he became agitated. Police said he then mouthed off to officers and then refused to post the inmate's bond. To find out more about the physical altercation, click here.

• Also on Jan. 28, after 10 a.m., a chimney cap was stolen from a home on Woods Avenue.
• Sometime between 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 and 9:15 a.m. on Jan. 28, a lattice was damaged at a residence on Caspar Avenue.
