Crash Leads to East Meadow Mom's DWI Arrest

An East Meadow woman was arrested on DWI charges Monday after she was involved in a car accident that injured her 10-year-old son, police said.

According to police, Kirsten Schneider, 46, of East Meadow was driving  southbound on Newbridge Road shortly after 4 p.m. when she struck a Buick that was stopped southbound at the traffic signal light.

Officers responded to the scene and an investigation determined that Schneider was allegedly driving while intoxicated with her 10-year-old son in the front seat, police said.

The child sustained an abrasion to his neck and Schneider suffered from neck pain. Both were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. The child was released to the custody of a family friend, authorities said.

The 70-year-old driver of the Buick suffered pain to her hand but refused medical assistance at the scene.

Schneider was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child.
